Is my penis too small? This is a question that men are unlikely to ask their friends or partners because of their nationality.
But behind the closed doors of the medical examination room, it’s a common question.
Urologist in children Lyn S. Palmer, MD, chief of pediatric urology at Children’s Medical Center in Cohen, Hyde Park, New York, listens a lot.
“Parents often ask about their children, and while they are in the office, they will ask for themselves,” Palmer told WebMD.
Says Bruce R. Gilbert, MD, director of sexual and reproductive medicine at the Smith Institute of Urology at Lake Success, said men concerned about penis size generally have another excuse to see a doctor.
“When they get to something else, they ask,” Oh, by the way, I’m worried about the length of my penis, “Gilbert told WebMD. Most men in the age group are between 20 and 40 years old. But some are between 40 and 50 years old, and some even older men ask. ”
The vast majority of these men are in surprise. Concern about the size of the small penis is common. The size of the penis is abnormally small.
Penis size: what is normal, what is not
You can think that while the penis works, the man will not have any problem with it. You will be wrong
The size of the penis is an essential element in man’s self-image. However, when other men do not boast, the average man greatly reduces their relative size.
Here is an example: in the course of two years, 67 men from an Italian hospital asked for surgical correction of a small penis. Each one turned out to have bars of normal size.
“A few days ago, I had a patient who spent an hour taking measurements of his penis and thought it was too small,” says Gilbert. “However, it was natural.”
This guy is not alone, about 45% of his brothers want a bigger penis. Not to mention that 85% of women of different sexes say they are satisfied with their partner’s penis standards.
Many men worry about the size of their erections. Studies have found that there is a lot of concern about how your penis appears when you have an infection.
So how can a man know if he is ordinary, big or small? Not because of the size of their shoes, a common myth about the estimation of penis length was refuted. Like so many other things in life, direct measurement is the key.
How to measure the penis
Men may be surprised to learn that penis length is not measured in the erect penis. There are too many variables.
Instead, the most reliable measurement of the penis is called the SPL length of the penis. The longer a man’s life is, the longer the length of the erect penis, according to studies done on brave young men who volunteered for injections of the erect penis.
To learn your SPL, measure your penis while it is flaccid. Press a narrow ruler against the pubic bone at the base of the penis. Do not measure only where the penis separates from the scrotum, otherwise it will lose a precious centimeter. Now, gently, but firmly, stretch the penis as far as it goes. Measure from the pubic bone to the tip of the penis.
Did you get five and a quarter inches? If so, you are perfectly normal. Most adult men measure about half an inch of 5.24 inches, according to statistics compiled by Ballmer. Almost all studies of penis length come with a similar measure.
If you are a little smaller, you have many companies. Many men also have a penis size below average as above.
What size is big? According to Ballmer’s statistics, only 0.6% of men have an SPL of 6.8 inches or more. But too big is not what bothers men.
Micropenis: when the penis is too small
There is, of course, something like a very small rod. The medical term “micropenis” is applied to 0.6% of men who have a smaller penis. According to Ballmer’s statistics, the SPL indicates three or two thirds of an inch or less of micropenis.
However, US physicians UU They are reluctant to recommend surgery for a man who measures more than three inches. This is because the surgery is controversial and risky.
Micropenis is not usually something that a person discovers when he is an adult. This usually occurs due to genetic or hormonal abnormalities that cause other more serious health problems early in life.
This is because the penis begins to develop when the fetus is only 8 weeks old. In week 12, the penis evolved and began to grow. During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, male hormones cause the penis to grow to normal length. Factors that interfere with the production of hormones and hormones that work in the growth of the penis.
When discovered in childhood, the micropenis can be treated with testosterone, which can stimulate the growth of the penis in childhood, even after puberty. Although the safety and efficacy of this treatment have not yet been demonstrated in the long term, the available data suggest that the treatment does not affect normal development during puberty.
For adults with micropenis, the options are few.
“In the case of the real microbutrin, there’s not much you can do for an adult, except put an artificial penis in the penis,” says Gilbert.
Fortunately, micropenis is a rare condition. The most common is what Palmer and his colleagues call “the set of conditions that make the penis appear small and small”: the unclear penis.
Unclear penis: when the size is not the only version
“The unclear penis means that the penis is hard to see,” says Palmer.
Micropenis, a really small penis rod, is the rarest condition under the general term “unclear penis”.
Other forms of penis without clothing that can remain untreated until puberty are clogged shells and penis buried.
“The interconnected penis indicates that the scrotum is attached to the lower part of the penis so that it pushes the penis inward,” says Palmer. “The penis is usually in the corners of the scrotum, but in the grated penis, the scrotum is high and the separation of the penis is not clear.”
The buried penis occurs when the penis is hidden under the skin. This can occur because excessive abdominal fat in the front of the abdominal wall hangs down to mask the penis. It can also occur when contact with the scrotum is absent and the penis backs towards the pelvis. Another form of buried penis occurs when the foreskin causes a very large penis to appear buried.
The Webbed bar can be managed by surgery. The buried penis may require only weight loss, possibly liposuction. There are also surgical procedures that can correct the problem.
Small penis syndrome
It’s called small penis syndrome: the belief that you’re not a real man because you do not have a big penis.
Perhaps one of the reasons why men often think that most men have no idea of the shape of the normal penis. When asked to guess, most of them guess wrong. About 15% of men raise their hands and admit they do not know, according to a study.
Another reason is pornography. Palmer tells the story of a teenage patient who suffers pain in the size of a small penis. But the test showed that it was perfectly normal. It turned out that the boy had seen pornography on the Internet, through which he obtained a distorted image of the normal anatomy of men.
Because the size of the penis is an essential part of the image of the human body, men who suffer from deformity often focus on the size of the penis.
The disruption of the body and other psychological problems that may be behind the small penis syndrome may require professional psychological help. But Palmer and Gilbert say that most men just need the assurance that they are truly natural.
Gilbert says: “I gave the patient physically and got his personal and social history.” “If you do not have a medical problem, I speak positively and tell you that you have a natural penis that does not differ in your work from any other healthy man.
Palmer notes that the law of averages dictates that some men will have a smaller penis than others. This does not make them abnormal.
“If a man has the natural function of the penis, he must reconcile himself to the fact that his penis is what it is,” he says. “You can not shorten a person, people must adapt to their anatomy.”
Can surgery make a small penis bigger?
It is difficult for a man to open his email without facing an offer of a medication, device or surgery given by the larger penis.
Of course, these things are simply annoying. But are there legitimate ways to prolong the penis?
“There’s not much to make the penis bigger,” says Palmer. “In theory, there is not much to increase the size of the penis or the size is not loaded with big complications”.
The procedures are known as “phalloplasty improvement” to enlarge the penis in the circumference. Because these procedures add weight to the penis, by transplanting the fat from another part of the body, they make the penis half an inch or more longer than that when it sinks.
“You can not predict that the size of the ring will expand evenly and often does not produce a good result,” says Palmer. “You have to hope you do not have a lumpy stick, that’s not easy to do.”
Most men do not know that only two thirds of the penis protrude from their bodies. The other third, which is placed in place with ligaments, provides strength for sexual function.
A surgical technique cuts these tendons and allows the penis to protrude with one or two. Gilbert has a dim view of the technique, because the penis loses its influence.
“When surgeons take the inside of the penis and take it out, the most common result is that the erection is not increasing anymore but is falling,” he says. “If the man is not happy with the length of his penis, he will not be happy with the penis he has to pick up.” The men asked me: “Can you go back to normal?”
Gilbert says that due to the high complication rate, insurance against malpractice rarely covers penis enlargement procedures.
All these procedures are considered “experimental surgery”. Serious complications include, but are not limited to, penile shortening, bulging or uneven appearance, scarring, sexual dysfunction and curvature of the penis. These complications often can not be corrected.
Can the devices make a smaller rod?
The traction devices that actually extend the penis can add about an inch to the length of the penis, according to small studies and narrative reports. Gilbert says he follows two patients who use these devices to try to lengthen his penis.
“These devices should be used for several hours a day, for several months,” he says. “Most people, even if they have a great incentive, do not have that kind of time, so I’m not sure that many patients have the time, energy or perseverance to do it.”
Vacuum devices can help men with erectile dysfunction to achieve erections, but they do not enlarge the penis.
Can regenerative medicine make a penis smaller?
However, there is a research area with interesting possibilities: regenerative medicine. Scientists have been able to cultivate the animal’s penis in the laboratory by planting scaffolds with special animal cells. This penis was implanted successfully.
A group of researchers in Beijing, China, reported using a similar technique to treat 69 patients with what they described as small penile syndrome. In this case, the tissues of the patient’s skin grew the scrotum and his restaurant inside his penis to increase its circumference.
“With regenerative medicine, the sky is the limit,” says Palmer. “We can have this as an option below the line.”
“Regenerative medicine is not yet ready for prime time,” says Gilbert. “These things have a lot of potential, but nothing we can offer patients in the near future.”
